Kind words for all GIVIT donors
Last week one of our lovely volunteers received this message of thanks from a worker at the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services. A beautiful message, reminding us of the importance of giving.
“I just wanted to let you know that the donated laptop has made a huge difference in the life of the young refugee man. He has been extremely depressed due to past trauma, separation from family, and an uncertain future in this country. (link to blog here) The laptop has given him instant access to his family and friends back in Sri Lanka. He is extremely grateful and passes on his thanks.
A refrigerator given by a GIVIT donor has helped to stabilise the life of a woman struggling with mental illness. She was amazed that someone would care enough to give her a brand new fridge.
Also, through GIVIT I will soon be giving a very good quality washing machine to a young single mum who has a daughter with Autism; they are currently homeless and as soon as we can find them a home we will start filling it up with the basics including the washing machine.
The GIVIT service has made a huge difference to the lives of clients I work with and to the other services I assist. Thank you all very much.”
National Child Protection Week
Child abuse and neglect is one of Australia’s most significant social problems. Last year alone, more than 35,000 Australian children were proven to have been abused or neglected (NAPCAN, 2014).
So much of what we do here at GIVIT is to support the services which protect Australian children. Each day our wonderful donors give essential items which enable children and parents to start re-building their lives after escaping violent situations. To view what’s urgently needed right now, please visit the GIVIT List.
Have a great week,
The GIVIT Team
